St. Ignace, MI (Fri.8/3)

The day after Mackinac Island, the boys did some schoolwork in the morning and explored the nearby forest, before we headed into St. Ignace for a few hours. We climbed up Castle Rock for a lovely birds eye view of Mackinac and area. I was surprised to find that Michigan-ers lay claim to Paul Bunyan and Babe too.

St. Ignace is pretty small -- mostly motels and ferry docks but we found a great little museum chronicling the efforts of an early Jesuit missionary, Father Marquette and the local Ojibwa and Huron tribes he ministered to. Below is an Ojibwa long house -- very educational spot.
